| Market Street Railway invites all its members to its annual meeting on May 16. This year, we’ve moved the meeting to Spring to provide a better balance of Market Street Railway member events, since our open house takes place in Fall.
The meeting will start at 7pm at our usual venue, the IBEW Local 6 hall at 55 Fillmore Street, near Duboce (F-line Church Street stop, first stop out of the subway on the N- and J-lines). Beforehand, a special treat: a members-only reception from 4-6pm at our San Francisco Railway Museum, to view our new Third Street exhibit.
The following Saturday, May 19 at our Pharr Restoration Facility, at Market & Duboce, we will have a special volunteer day, from 10am to 4pm, to spruce up vintage Melbourne tram No. 496 and the Blackpool ‘Boat Tram’ No. 228. Prospective volunteers are also welcomed that day to learn about other important Market Street Railway activities being planned to enhance historic streetcar operations, such as placing flags on the cars for major holidays and events, beginning with Memorial Day weekend.
Market Street Railway has been successful solely because of volunteer efforts over the past 30 years. Without a constant stream of new volunteers, we won’t be able to continue efforts to expand our preservation activities or make the F-line and cable cars a great experience. Please join us on May 19. If you can’t make it that day but would still like to help, send us an email at volunteer@streetcar.org, telling us what you’d like to help with. A complete list of volunteer opportunities can be viewed here.
