Thanks to Market Street Railway Board member and transit activist Kat Siegal, with help from Chris Arvin, you can now see where every cable car is on the street — in REAL TIME!
Kat and Chris created the very popular live F-line streetcar map for us in the past decade. Now, they’ve added cable cars as well. You can view it by clicking on the live map box on the front page of our website, streetcar.org, or directly, at streetcar.live. You can choose to see either cable cars, F-line streetcars, or both at the same time.

The cable car map features cute icons for each cable car, plus its fleet number, just as the streetcar map does (icons created by Chris Arvin, to whom, thanks!) The car numbers are especially helpful in locating seasonally-decorated cable cars, like the Lunar New Year cable cars (California Street 49) and the NEW “Cupid Express” cable car (Powell 11, done up beautifully by the great Val Lupiz, cable car gripman extraordinaire and Market Street Railway member).

You can call up the map on your smartphone to find out how close the nearest cable car or streetcar is to you, and which specific vehicle it is, something Muni’s information system doesn’t offer. We will be alerting you on our website about seasonally-decorated cars, so you can look for them on the map.
Thanks to Kat and Chris for creating this great map.
Reminder: our website has pages for each historic streetcar and cable car, detailing the history of the cars themselves and the heritage liveries they wear, plus lots of other cool info.
