Donate to Market Street Railway

Your generous financial support makes it possible for us to execute our nonprofit mission of preserving historic transit in San Francisco. Learn more about our programs and initiatives.

Market Street Railway is supported entirely by membership dues and donations, and receives no financial support from the San Francisco Municipal Railway or the City of San Francisco. If you would like to become a Market Street Railway Member, with the benefits involved, click here.  If you would like to simply donate to support our cause, read on.

All donations are tax-deductible, as provided by IRS section 501(c)(3). No gift is too small, and all donations directly support our programs and initiatives.

General Fund

This is the default fund which allows Market Street Railway to earmark your donation for whichever programs and initiatives need it most, and for the general operation of the organization.

Car Enhancement Fund

This fund supports enhancements to the historic streetcars and cable cars. This includes producing accurate logos, decals, and other replication of features on individual vehicles, preparation and production of informational displays in the cars themselves, interpreting the vehicle’s history and sharing vignettes of San Francisco transit history, and purchasing flags, lights, and other seasonal enhancements, as well as supplies to clean the cars.

Museum Fund

This fund covers the expenses involved in creating exhibits, conservation of artifacts, cataloguing of our archives, school outreach programs, and other museum-related activities.
