streetcar.org - market street railway - projects and priorities
1. Presidio Main Post
The E-line terminal should be within walking distance of the Presidio Main Post, its historic buildings enjoying a rennaisance as offices for nonprofits and small businesses.
2. Crissy Field
The extended E-line should serve the Crissy Field Environmental Center, at the west end of the newly-restored tidal marsh and greensward, providing access to this new recreation resource.
3. Letterman Digital Arts Center
The new Letterman Digital Arts Center, occupied by the companies of legendary filmmaker George Lucas, will be within walking distance of the Presidio E-line terminal.
4. Palace of Fine Arts
The romantic remnant of the 1915 World's Fair is a favorite of visitors. In addition, the popular hands-on childrens' science museum, the Exploratorium, is currently housed within.
5. Fort Mason Center
The E-line would provide much-needed public transportation to the teeming Fort Mason Center, home to numerous nonprofits, classes, public events, theatres, and concerts.
6. Aquatic Park
The alignment for the E-line through Aquatic Park hasn't been selected, but likely routings would bring riders closer to Municipal Pier, the Maritime Museum, the Hyde Street Pier, and the Ghirardelli Square complex.
7. Fisherman's Wharf
The E-line would provide badly-needed additional service to attractions such as Restaurant Row, the historic harbor, Pier 39, the Cannery, the Museum of San Francisco at Pier 45, Alcatraz ferries, and more.
8. Pier 27 Complex
The E-line would be the ideal way for people to visit the large recreational complex planned for Pier 27, alleviating traffic on The Embarcadero by up to 5,000 riders per day.
9. Pier 7
The E-line would open up more of the waterfront to more people, both San Franciscans and visitors alike, to explore waterfront attractions, such as Pier 7 with its stunning views.
10. Ferry Building
The E-line would provide transit access for thousands to the newly-restored Ferry Building, both for the trans-bay ferries, and for the wonderful specialty markets now located within the historic edifice.
11. Cruise Ship Terminal
The E-line would stop at the future James R. Herman International Cruise Terminal at Piers 30-32, providing historic transit for thousands of visitors to historic locations and transfer points along the waterfront.
12. SBC Park
The E-line would provide an important additional public transit alternative to and from the baseball games at the Giants' beautiful ballpark at China Basin.
13. Mission Bay
The E-line would share the Third Street light rail tracks through this new UCSF campus, residential and business neighborhood, providing direct service to the northern waterfront and the Presidio.
14. Pier 70 Complex
Whether it becomes the new home of the Exploratorium, or finds some other use, there's no question that this historic industrial complex has a vibrant, busy future.
