Historic Transit Maps, Routes and Fares
Enjoy your ride! The rails of the cable car system, the F-line, and the future E-line form a "steel triangle" in northeastern San Francisco, linking vibrant residential neighborhoods, business districts, convention facilities, and internationally-known visitor attractions. Besides serving the waterfront, downtown, and the Castro district, Muni's historic rail fleet brings you within walking distance of many historic San Francisco attractions, including Mission Dolores, City Hall, Chinatown, Nob Hill, Jackson Square, North Beach, Telegraph Hill, and Coit Tower.
Our map highlights the F-line, the three cable car lines, the 39-Coit bus, and a number of neighborhoods and attractions along the way. Click on the thumbnail at right to view a larger version, or download a copy. In addition to our map, the Muni has prepared a number of system maps in PDF format, downloadable here: Downtown SF, F-Market & Wharves, Powell-Mason, Powell-Hyde, California.
F-line fares (effective July 1, 2009)

Youth/Senior streetcar fare (ages 5-17 and 65+, valid ID required)

Cable car fares (effective September 1, 2005)
Cable car tickets and one-day Cable Car Passes are sold onboard cable cars by the conductors. Conductors can make change for up to $20. No transfers are accepted or issued on cable cars. If you plan to make an intermediate stop, or ride round-trip, the one-day Cable Car Pass is a good choice in comparison to a single-ride fare. However, a Muni Passport may be a better deal than the one-day Cable Car Pass if you also plan to ride other Muni vehicles, such as the F-line historic streetcars of the F-line, or other Muni streetcars or buses.
Monthly Muni FastPasses, BART Plus, and Muni Passports are valid on cable cars.
Basic cable car fare for all riders
$5 each way, no transfer issued (one ride on one car)
Children under 5 ride free
